It looks like Simon Cowell wants ‘America’s Got Talent‘ to be a family business. The hit NBC summer show just entered its 20th season, and a lot of people give Cowell the credit for keeping it rolling.
He’s been a judge and executive producer on the show since 2016, but it’s important to note he created the “Got Talent” format, which has ballooned into a mega franchise. There’s over 60 countries airing their own version of the show.
During a recent interview with PEOPLE, Cowell revealed he sees the show going on for another 20 years. He also dropped a nugget of an idea that his son Eric might take over one day.
I haven’t really had that conversation. I’ve hinted at it. Fortunately like me, he loves these kinds of shows, which is a good start. I think he’d actually be a really good producer. I don’t think he’d be comfortable on camera, but that could change. I don’t know. But if he wanted to, I would definitely encourage him to produce. I would love that. I mean, that would be my dream.
Honestly, we’re not 100% sure what a producer does, but we’re willing to bet Eric could do it! After all, he has Simon as a father!
Speaking of fatherhood, Simon admits that being a dad has changed his life completely.
You realize that there are other things more important actually than your career. I know it sounds corny, but I mean, it is the truth. If I wasn’t where I am in my life today, I think it would feel quite empty.
