You probably recognize Sydney Sweeney from the hit HBO series Euphoria. Ever since starring in the series, the 24-year-old actress has become a household name. In addition to her starring role in Euphoria, she also starred in another award-winning HBO series, The White Lotus.
She’s been booking roles left and right, and while she’s obviously thrilled with her recent success, she also feels like she’s missing out on her dreams of being a young mom.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sweeney revealed she’s always wanted to be a young mom.
I want to have a family, I’ve always wanted to be a young mom. And I’m worried about how this industry puts stigmas on young women who have children and looks at them in a different light. I was worried that, if I don’t work, there is no money and no support for kids I would have.
She explained that if she wanted to take a six-month break, she doesn’t have any income coming in to support that.
“I don’t have someone supporting me. I don’t have anyone I can turn to, to pay my bills,” she added. According to the actress, TV stars don’t make as much as they used to.
Especially if you’re on a streaming platform:
They don’t pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals. The established stars still get paid, but I have to give 5 percent to my lawyer, 10 percent to my agents, 3 percent or something like that to my business manager. I have to pay my publicist every month, and that’s more than my mortgage.
And get this, she claims she’s forced to take on brand deals because if she didn’t, she wouldn’t make enough to live in Los Angeles.
It’s a pretty wild claim. It’s difficult to know exactly how much she has made from Euphoria, but one report suggested she brought in around $350,000 for 13 episodes. If that’s true, that means her lawyer, agent and business manager are taking around $60,000 of that, which drops her down to $290,000 before taxes.
And as stated above, she also starred in another hit series, and has a couple of movies coming up, so she’s probably made well over $500,000 from acting alone in the past couple years.
Believe it or not Sydney, people survive in LA making much less than that. It might be her lifestyle that’s the problem.
