Dwyane Wade’s ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, is making some pretty huge accusations against the former NBA star.
She has objected to Wade’s petition to legally change their 15-year-old trans daughter’s name to Zaya. Funches-Wade claims there are multiple reasons to reject the petition, including the fact that she believes Wade is doing this just for more money and fame.
In court documents, Funches-Wade wrote:
Wade is positioned to profit from the minor child’s name and gender change with various companies through contacts and marketing opportunities including but not limited to deals with Disney. I have concerns that [Wade] may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies.
She claims that during a meeting back in April of 2022 with Wade and Zaya, Wade told her that “a lot of money had been already made” in relation to Zaya’s name and gender issue.
[Wade] told me that he intended to make our child very famous due to the name and gender issue and also informed me that there would be endorsements/contracts associated therewith.
Now who knows if there is any truth to this. It honestly sounds like the typical fearmongering you hear from certain people when it comes to trans and gay issues. They claim that these people are transitioning for the “fame” which is a bit of a ridiculous accusation to make. I mean, I’d like to be rich and famous as much as anyone else, but you don’t see me changing genders.
I’m under the impression most people want to change genders… ’cause well, they genuinely don’t feel like they’re in the right body.
I just can’t see Wade pressuring his daughter to change genders simply for profit, especially when you remember he’s already worth nearly $200 million on his own.
But we’ll see how this all plays out in court. Wade has not yet filed a response, but we’re sure it will be coming soon.
