At 70-years-old, most people have entered the “grandparent” stage of their life. They take care of their kid’s child for a few hours a week and then watch The Price is Right and golf with the rest of their free time.
But Jeff Goldblum is not your average 70-year-old. The ‘Jurassic Park‘ actor talked with Hoda Kotb on Today last week, and he revealed that he’s having so much fun being an older father. For those who don’t know, he has a 7-year-old son named Charlie and a 5-year-old son named River.
He shares them both with his 39-year-old wife, Emilie Livingston.
It’s amazing, it’s revivifying, and makes my relationship with Emilie, frankly, enhanced. Seeing [my wife] in this new role is unbelievable. She’s heroic beyond imagination.
He went on to say their family dynamic is “spectacular,” but also made it clear that parenting can definitely be a challenge.
And it’s challenging and it’s sometimes maddening and very volatile. As you know, at 3 and 5, 5 and 7 they can be like feral creatures unleashed. Oh yeah, and sweet and amazing. It’s great.
And while he realizes he might not be around as long as some fathers, he’s still glad he waited.
I’m glad I waited. It feels great to do it right now, because all the things I’m considering are perfectly suited to the big questions and challenges of having kids, and what you want to expose them to. What you want to leave them with, what life is, and what kind of life you contribute to them.
Hey, we all have our own journeys in life, right? No judgement here.
