Ben Affleck might be a movie star, but he’s more concerned with being a father. The 50-year-old actor sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed he’s trying to find ways to be involved in the entertainment industry without traveling constantly.

This is one of the reasons he started a production company with his close friend, Matt Damon. He wants to get into the production side of things, so he doesn’t have to go film something for three months at a time.

One of the reasons I did it was, I’m divorced. I share custody. I don’t want to go to Austin and New Orleans and Georgia anymore and not see my kids. It just doesn’t work. These years are too important. If I miss them, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life. And then I thought, ‘OK, well, if I’m in Los Angeles and I’m in an office and I’m doing this work, I can step out for the basketball game or the jazz performance.’ So I protect those things.

Affleck shares three children with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. They have a 10-year-old son, and two daughters, ages 14 and 17. He’s also now the stepfather to Jennifer Lopez’s 15-year-old twins, Max and Emme.

Safe to say he’s in full dad mode, and that’s probably a great thing for him. After all, he has struggled with alcoholism and a gambling addiction, so the more time he spends at home with his family, the better.

Affleck admits being an involved dad is a full-time job.

Now, my parents never came to one Little League game ever, once. But in the modern era of raising children, with three kids, 11, 14, and 17, and three schools with their individual activities, it turns out that is in and of itself a total full-time job.

I’m sure all you parents out there can relate.
