Pregnancy? Motherhood? It’s not easy, and Hayden Panettiere is ready to talk about it. The 33-year-old actress spoke to E! News recently about her struggles with postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter, Kaya.
During the conversation, Panettiere says she didn’t know much about the condition eight years ago when she gave birth. No one really talked about it with her.
I wish I knew to look out for it. But I never heard any stories about it at all. I just thought there was something seriously wrong with me, so I thought, ‘[Alcohol] will fix this. Duh!’ And it didn’t. It does for a moment, but then it made everything worse.
She had people downplaying the condition, telling her that she should be able to get over it by herself. No one told her it was going to be okay, and that crushed her.
For those who don’t remember, she welcomed her baby girl back in 2014 with her then-fiance, Wladimir Klitschko. In 2015, she entered treatment for alcoholism and her postpartum depression.
It’s been a struggle ever since for Panettiere. She’s battled an addiction to alcohol and opioids. She relinquished custody of her daughter, but now that she’s been doing better, their relationship has improved.
She has a beautiful life. I was just with her. She’s just an amazing child. She’s smart and she’s funny and for whatever reason, she still loves me.
Here’s to hoping the good vibes carry on!
