You have probably heard by now that Gina Rodriguez gave birth to her first baby boy last month. The 38-year-old actress welcomed little baby Charlie with her husband, Joe LoCicero.
During a special Mother’s Day-focused collab with Orangetheory Fitness this week, Gina talked with PEOPLE about how motherhood has been treating her.
I’m like in newborn heaven, honestly. He’s completely developing and evolving every single day. It went from him not making eye contact to making eye contact, him not smiling to smiling. He’s starting to giggle. Every day is a new something. I swear, sometimes it’s a nap and he wakes up and there’s a new something, and you’re just mind-blown.
How sweet, right? It certainly sounds like she was more than ready to be a mother.

But what about her baby’s name? What made her and Joe decide on Charlie Ray? Well, she revealed the name actually has a deeper meaning. She said that his first and last name are inspired by family members who have since died.
Additionally, Gina revealed she suffered a hip injury while giving birth.
During pushing, I said, ‘I feel like my leg is falling off,’ and they were like ‘Push into the pain,’ and then I heard a loud pop, and I was like, ‘That pain, you mean?’ My hip was severely in pain for a while after. Honestly, [it] still feels somewhat weakened.
Ah, yes. The joys of giving birth. I think all moms have a few battle scars. But it’s worth it, right? RIGHT?
