80-year-old actor Harrison Ford has a total of four kids, ranging from age 22 all the way to 55. He’s been a father for well over half his life.
But he’s also been an actor for over half his life, and unfortunately, sometimes the acting comes before the parenting.
During a recent interview with Esquire, Ford admitted he’d probably be a “better parent,” if he had a less successful career.
Certainly the more constant gardener is the better parent. I’ve been out of town, up my own ass, for most of my life.
In the interview, Ford revealed his wife has been encouraging him to enter therapy, but he refuses to go because he has already accepted all his flaws and failures.
I do take mental health seriously. I was trying to say, as I explained to her: It’s that I accommodate all of the flaws that people go to psychiatrists to accommodate, because I accept my flaws.
Perhaps he should ask his children how they feel about therapy? Maybe a family therapy session could be in order? After all, it’s not all about whether Ford accepts his own flaws, he should want his kids to understand his shortcomings as well.
