Kelly Clarkson has talked at length about her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. The former couple were married for seven years before filing for a divorce in 2020.
Sadly, the divorce was very public and very nasty. They both accused each other of some pretty terrible things, and they clearly did not end on good terms, which is a shame because they share two kids together: 9-year-old River and 7-year-old Remington.
During a recent appearance on the “Podcrushed” podcast, the 41-year-old singer revealed she’s had a lot of uncomfortable discussions with her kids following the divorce.
When you do go through a divorce, especially with young kids, the definition of love comes up quite a bit. They ask ‘So you don’t love daddy anymore?’ and I say, ‘I love that Daddy gave me you two. We just don’t like each other like we did. It’s just different now.
Yeah, that’s rough. No one likes having those conversations, especially when you’re still trying to process the split yourself.
Clarkson says the worst part is that you can see the look on their face, like they’re wondering if her love for them will change.
It’s hard. and then it’s hard when they go, ‘Why don’t I have a grandpa from you? You told me love is different with a parent and a child than with a husband and a wife. But it’s not because your dad left you.
As some of you may know, Clarkson didn’t have the best relationship with her father, Stephen, who died back in 2019.
Clarkson also revealed she relied heavily on antidepressants to get through the early days of the divorce.
Here’s to hoping there’s more sunshine in her life now!
