Angelina Jolie doesn’t often speak to the media, but during a recent cover story for Vogue, the 48-year-old actress opened up about some difficult moments in her life.
She told the publication that when she first became a mother at 26-years-old, her life changed, and her children ended up saving her…
I think, recently, I would’ve gone under in a much darker way had I not wanted to live for them. They’re better than me, because you want your children to be. Of course I’m the mother, and hopefully that safe place for them and that stability. But I’m also the one that they laugh at — and I see them taking over so many different aspects of our family.
For those who don’t know, Jolie shares Maddox (22), Pax (19), Zahara (18), Shiloh (17) and twins Knox and Vivenne (15) with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt.
Pitt and Jolie had a pretty nasty divorce back in 2016. It’s believed Pitt’s heavy drinking was partially to blame. He reportedly got drunk on a private jet with his family and ended up getting into a heated argument with Jolie. At one point, their oldest son Maddox stood up to defend his mom and Pitt reportedly hit him.
Police investigated the incident, but no charges were filed. It’s believed Maddox still refuses to speak to his father.
On a lighter note, Jolie also mentioned in the interview that she encourages her kids to be who they are…
I don’t tell the kids how to dress. Even when they were little, I just put things in front of them. Nobody has to go anywhere if they don’t want to, and if they don’t want to dress up, they don’t have to.
We can support that!
