Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds share four children together, with the most recent bundle of joy being born back in February. They both always wanted a big family, and now that they have one, they could not be happier.
During a conversation with PEOPLE, Ryan explained how he and Blake check in on their kids’ mental health.
I think it’s more about talking to them about everything. We stress the importance of self-awareness. I think as parents, we are so much better equipped to handle the rigors of childhood through our kids now than when I was a kid. It’s just totally different now. People are much more self-aware. And that’s the thing we sort of hang our hat on the most is self-awareness with our kids. Not be happy, not be anything, just be self-aware and welcome everything in.
And we could not agree more. If you think about it, when people start therapy later in life, a lot of what they learn is self-awareness. The majority of people are not connected with their bodies or minds. We like quick fixes to problems, but sometimes it’s best not to fix. Sometimes it’s more helpful to accept and understand.
It certainly sounds like Blake and Ryan are doing parenting right! Although, he did also admit that with four young kids, their home often resembles a zoo. He joked about spending the rest of his life in his office.
Everybody’s doing great. Everybody’s actually doing fantastic. It’s a zoo over here. This is my office here and to be honest I’ll probably spend the rest of my life in here!
