Babies can put a lot of stress on a marriage, just ask Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty. As some of you may know, the 40-year-old rapper gave birth to her first baby back in September of 2020.
This was during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and because of this, she and Petty didn’t really have a lot of help with their newborn. It’s not like the grandparents could come over and stay with them.
And this put a lot of stress on their marriage. Minaj told Vogue the following:
I’m not going to lie, things got testy between us. Because of our history, I think we knew we’d get past it. But there’s no such thing as confidence in parenthood. I kind of wish that someone had told me — although I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to understand it — that there’s a level of anxiety, and you think it’s going to go away, but in fact it gets scarier.
Being a new parent is definitely a fear-inducing experience, and that’s just under normal circumstances. If you throw in a global pandemic to the mix? Yikes!
Thankfully, Minaj and Petty are finding a rhythm together and parenting has been going well. She revealed that they don’t allow their 3-year-old son to have sweets because diabetes runs in their community.
We don’t allow him to have sweets or drink juice because of illnesses like diabetes that run in our community. I’m not in favor of body positivity if it means unhealthy bodies. That’s bull. It’s not believable, so let’s stop pretending.
Hard to argue with that.
