It’s not easy being a working mother, and no one knows that more than America Ferrera. The 39-year-old actress welcomed her first baby five years ago, while she was still working on the NBC sitcom, Superstore.
She had to return to work just two months after giving birth, which was causing her tremendous stress, as you might imagine. Filming takes place five days a week and they’re often going 10+ hours on those days.
And during a new interview with PEOPLE, Ferrera gives credit to fellow actress Kerry Washington for basically giving her a cheat sheet.
I was so lucky to have Kerry Washington as a friend, who had two of her babies while she was on Scandal. I remember asking her, ‘How do you do it? How are you on a TV show and have a newborn baby? What am I going to do?’ And she gave me the most detailed instructions of every single thing that I was going to do to make my life easier, down to the exact Pack ‘n Play for my trailer.
She also told her how to schedule her pumping, breastfeeding and even instructed her on what bra to ask wardrobe for.
I think all the time about how many tears and how much energy and how much money and how much trial and error she saved me by just telling me what she learned having done the same thing in the same position.
Wow. How can we get a Kerry Washington in our life? We need help planning our lives too!
