47-year-old actor Cillian Murphy is gearing up for awards season for his performance in Oppenheimer.
And this past week, he was honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award in Acting at the Palm Springs International Film Awards.
During his speech, he made sure to give a special shoutout to his wife of 20 years, Yvonne McGuinness, and their two sons, 18-year-old Malachy and 16-year-old Aran.
Because I don’t ever really get to do this too often, I want to say thanks to my family. Two-thirds of them are sitting down there. We had to leave one of them at home doing exams. But just thanks for putting up with me — putting up with the half me and the shadow me and the absent me, the remains of me when I’m doing a film like this or work in general. You’re always there. I love it. So thanks, guys.
That’s a pretty sweet gesture. After all, the kids of Hollywood stars sacrifice a lot. Sure, they have money and probably go on lavish vacations, but they also don’t get the attention from their parents that other kids do.
Murphy worked on this movie for six months, which means he probably wasn’t much of a father for half the year.
Sounds like he’s making up for lost time now.
