Some of you may know that Jimmy Kimmel’s 7-year-old son Billy has had heart problems since birth. Back in May of 2017, an emotional Kimmel revealed Billy was born with a treatable diseased heart.
He had his first heart surgery just days after his birth. Kimmel remembered it as “the longest three hours of his life.”
Months later, Billy had to have another open-heart surgery in December of 2017. Both surgeries were a success.
Now, seven years later, Billy had to have another open-heart surgery. The 56-year-old host announced the news on his Instagram account this week.

He captioned a photo of Billy smiling from his hospital bed…
We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid. Walking around this hospital, meeting parents at their most vulnerable, children in pain and the miracle workers who do everything in their considerable power to save them is a humbling experience. Thank you to my wife Molly for being stronger than is reasonable for any Mom to be and Billy, you are the toughest (and funniest) 7 year-old we know,
It’s believed this might be the last open-heart surgery he’ll need, so that’s great news. We are so thrilled that the surgery was a success!
