Popular HGTV stars, Chip and Joanna Gaines, share five kids together, ranging from age 19 all the way down to 5.
The husband-wife duo had a conversation with TODAY, and they revealed the super strict no social media rule they have in their household.
They don’t allow their kids to open a social media account until the summer before college, so basically, until they are 18.
Our house rule is you get social media the summer before you go to college. So we have that time. So 18. We have that time to kind of work through that whole… thing.
Admittedly, it’s not easy enforcing the rule. The star couple noted their kids want to have a social media account well before their 18th birthday.
But it’s a challenge! I mean, you can tell these kids want it before that. It’s not like it’s this agreed place to where we’ve all decided at roughly 18 and they’re like, ‘Oh thank goodness. I didn’t want it to begin with.’ They want it at 12, 13, 14.
Honestly, sounds like a good rule, but we do wonder if their kids are truly following it. If I had that rule in the household, I’d simply be worried they would have a secret social media account. When you have such strict rules, you open yourself up to secrets.
Parenting… it’s not easy.
