Former ‘Scandal‘ actress Kerry Washington and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha share three children together, but you probably didn’t even know that.
And that’s by design. Washington and Asomugha are very protective of their children. They have two daughters and a son, but you don’t often see them posting about their kids or taking them to big premieres.
I think just from the very beginning, Nnamdi and I have been really protective of our partnership and our relationship, because we wanted it to belong to us. And I think in many ways, we just want to give our kids that same opportunity to define a life for themselves and to enter the public space in their own way.
She does admit that their not as protective as they used to be. It gets a little harder as they grow older.
They’re not, like, locked in a dungeon. They do, you know, come to set, we go places, we do things. We do feel like we want to give them agency to engage in a public life in the way they want to, because this is what we do.
It’s difficult to find fault in that line of thinking. We see so many celebrities force their children into the spotlight. Heck, some have even created Instagram accounts for their babies.
The fact that Washington is letting her kids choose whether or not they want to be “known” is a breath of fresh air.
