Life is full of ups and downs, but those downs don’t feel quite as bad when you have a partner for life by your side.
John Legend talked to PEOPLE this week about how strong he and Chrissy Teigen’s relationship is. They had a big test earlier this year when their 6-year-old son Miles was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
He was at a summer camp where nearly 80% of the kids came down with an awful stomach bug. Miles caught it as well and had to be hospitalized to treat the illness. That’s where doctors saw that his blood sugar looked a little suspicious.
Chrissy was upset a little bit when she first heard it. She’s been so good at learning what she needs to do. My personality is one where I’m very optimistic and I’m very practical. As soon as I learned that he had this I knew it was going to be life-changing for him and for us, but I’m also like, ‘We can do this.’ We’ve got great advice and lots of people offering support to help us learn.
They worked together to create a plan and they’re already feeling more confident handling their son’s illness. In fact, Legend claims he and Chrissy are stronger because of it.
This speaks to us feeling like a team and knowing we can do this together. It just makes us stronger.
The good news is they still have a few years to practice before the disease really ramps up. Right now, Miles’ insulin is still doing some of the work, but once he gets a little older, they’ll have to monitor every single thing.
But it sounds like they’ll have no problems!
