On Thursday (Sept 19) tennis legend Serena Williams spoke at the INBOUND event about her life (and her venture capital fund, but who cares about that?)
During the conversation, Serena talked a little about her first-born, Alexis Olympia. As most of you know, she shares Olympia (7) and 1-year-old Adira River with her Reddit co-founder husband, Alexis Ohanian.
My daughter just turned 7. She’s not into princesses, she’s into Taylor Swift. I am, too.
Honestly, Swift is probably an honorary princess at this point. In America, Beyonce is our queen and Swift is our princess.
Serena also talked about the challenges of raising two young girls with all the “negative energy” out there in the world…
It’s a scary world. It’s a digital world for kids right now. I’m always on with my daughter, but we don’t allow her on certain platforms. It’s so interesting that with everything available online and the access that kids have — in a second, you never know what can come to them. Like I said, I’m trying to think positively. I feel like we might try to take it slow with her and go a little bit slower with electronics, and just let her be a kid for as long as you can.
That’s the way to do it! They will have plenty of time to waste away on their phones and computers as they grow older.
For now, just let them be kids!
