On a recent episode of Today with Jenna and Friends, Jenna Bush Hager spoke with Monica Lewinsky about the topic of failure.
The 43-year-old talk show host revealed it’s her greatest concern for her children, and not in the way you might think. She’s not afraid of them failing, she’s afraid of them not being allowed to fail.
It’s actually my biggest concern as a mom is I don’t think our kids are allowed to fail. And I failed publicly and it’s actually what makes me, I feel like, my superpower. I feel brave because you can come out of something. We need to teach kids that they can come out of things.
There is a lot of truth to this. We want to protect our kids from everything, but sometimes, they need to fail in order to learn the world doesn’t stop when they do. You could get onstage in front of thousands of people and make a complete fool of yourself, and two days later, no one would even remember.
And once you learn that failure doesn’t mean the “end,” it gets a lot easier to just try things.
One example of this? Jenna had her daughter, Mila, on an episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna back in 2021 when Mila was 8-years-old.
And during the episode, Mila revealed that Jenna had peed her pants…
Yeah, one time she was laughing in our living room and she peed her pants! You changed your pajamas!
Whoops! Mila hasn’t been on the show since… LOL!
