Director/actress Elizabeth Banks celebrated Mother’s Day this past weekend by getting away from her children. The 51-year-old actress shares two kids, Felix, 14, and Magnus, 12, with her husband Max Handelman.
And while she loves them very much, she wanted a weekend away from being a mom.
She told PEOPLE:
I got to celebrate Mother’s Day by going away for the weekend with my husband, which is exactly what I wanted for Mother’s Day. My kids are incredible. They’re very good about cards and flowers and fun things like that. They didn’t forget or anything. But we were not together on Mother’s Day, and that was fine with me.
Hey, there’s nothing with that! It’s Mother’s Day after all. A special day for moms, so they should get exactly what they want.
Banks and her husband Handelman have been married since 2003. They actually met way back in 1992, so they’ve been in each other’s lives for over 30 years.
And because they’ve been together for so long, Banks has complete trust in him as a father, which makes her working mom guilt fade away.
For me, what I’ve come to is letting go of guilt. It’s societal. But you let go of it. And I trust my husband. My husband — just being like, ‘You got it.’
