On July 26, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea surprised her fans by sharing an adorable photo of her 2-year-old son Onyx, who she shares with Playboy Carti.
In the photo, Onyx holds up his finger as he poses for the camera. Iggy captioned the photo, “Onyx is such a cutie. I can’t handle it.”
Iggy has been pretty private when it comes to motherhood. In fact, her birth was a secret. She give birth to Onyx in April of 2020 without anyone knowing. Two months later, she shared the news with her followers:
“I have a son. I kept waiting for the right time to say something but it feels like the more time passes the more I realize that I’m always going to feel anxious to share news that giant with the world. I want to keep his life private but wanted to make it clear he is not a secret & I love him beyond words.
Sadly, a few months later in October of 2020, Iggy revealed that she and Onyx’s father, Playboy Carti, had split. And it doesn’t appear the split was amicable. When the split was announced, she wrote, “You Lost a Real 1. People take loyalty for granted [and] that’s why I’d rather be alone.”
It’s not clear how co-parenting is going for them, but hopefully they’ve designed a system that works for them both. Iggy is 7 years older than Carti, so perhaps he just wasn’t ready for a serious relationship.
During an interview with PEOPLE back in 2021, Iggy talked about how she likes to spend the most amount of time possible with her son.
I like to spend the whole day with son, and he doesn’t go to bed until 7 o’clock. That’s when the clock starts for me, whether it’s in the studio or working on other creative projects. I don’t go to bed until four-thirty in the morning. It’s a never-ending cycle of balancing what I want. I have big respect for other working moms. Whether you’re an entertainer or whatever you do, it is a tough balance, but it’s really fulfilling.
