Back in 2009, Nadya ‘Octomom’ Suleman became a household name when she gave birth to the first surviving octuplets.

Suleman conceived the octuplets and her six other children via IVF.

The circumstances of their high order multiple birth led to controversy in the field of assisted reproductive technology as well as an investigation by the Medical Board of California of the fertility specialist involved.

Fast forward 13 years later, and the octuplets are now starting their first day of eighth grade! The 47-year-old mother went on her Instagram account to share a photo of her eight children as they prepared to take on their first day of junior high.

She captioned the post:

First day of 8th grade. Be proud of yourselves kids for being kind, respectful, and helpful to all your fellow peers, teachers and staff. You are exceptional role models to the 6th and 7th graders.
I love you

The octuplets turned 13-years-old in January of this year, and that was a pretty emotional milestone for Suleman.

She posted a tribute to her kids on Instagram, writing:

You are all growing into some of the most kind, humble, grateful and loving human beings I have ever known. Each of you possess rare and unique characteristics and are unlike any other child of your age, particularly in our society today. You are selfless, altruistic, nonmaterialistic and loving, fearing, followers of God. … I do not know what I could possibly have done to deserve being blessed so bountifully. I love you.

Sounds like things are working out for the big family, which is certainly nice to hear. There have been some rough times along the way. She even ended up in rehab back in 2012 for anxiety, stress and abuse of Xanax.

In 2018, she told The New York Times that she and her children live together in a three-bedroom townhouse in California, and the youngest kids take turns sleeping on the couch.

No word on if they have a bigger place now, but as long as everyone is happy, that’s all that matters!
