During a conversation on Thursday at a summit called “A Day of Unreasonable Conversation” Chrissy Teigen revealed she didn’t actually have a miscarriage in 2020.

She actually had a life-saving abortion, which is not something she realized until recently.

Two years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack, John and my third child, I had to make a lot of difficult and heartbreaking decisions. It became very clear around halfway through that he would not survive, and that I wouldn’t either without any medical intervention. Let’s just call it what it was: It was an abortion. An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance.

She didn’t go into specifics, but basically, she’s saying that at around 20 weeks, doctors told her the baby would not survive birth, and that her life would be in danger as well if she continued with the pregnancy.

Chrissy says it didn’t really click until recently when the decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade was announced.

I fell silent, feeling weird that I hadn’t made sense of it that way. I told the world we had a miscarriage, the world agreed we had a miscarriage … and I became really frustrated that I didn’t, in the first place, say what it was, and I felt silly that it had taken me over a year to actually understand that we had had an abortion.

At the end of the day, it was a life-saving operation. And the fact that it might be considered controversial or even illegal just two years later is a pretty depressing thing to think about.

But life moves forward for Teigen and her husband John Legend. They are expecting their rainbow baby soon.
