You ever hear new parents say things like, “It’s all about showing your kid a healthy diet and making vegetables a part of life. If it’s normal to you, it’ll be normal to them!” and then four years down the road, they’re shoving mac & cheese down their kids’ throat because they refuse to eat anything green.

For some reason, 90% of kids just don’t like veggies. Getting kids to eat a healthy diet can be extremely difficult, but Ciara is offering up some tips that work in her and Russell Wilson’s household.

She says treats are okay sometimes, “What good is life without some good treats in it?” she asked.

We loves to snack on Rice Krispies Treats. Then we like to throw some good candy in the mix, too. We like to do it all, honestly. I try not to use candy as a thing to get things done in my house with my kids, but I will tell you it does make the kids really get in line.

What about the healthy stuff? Well, Ciara says she tries to sneak spinach into their smoothies and focuses on neutral items across the board.

I just try my best to find items that are neutral across the board so we’re not all over the place and try to make everyone happy. They can’t have three different, unique meals all the time; that’s just not normal. And I tell them, ‘You know what, guys? Mama didn’t grow up like that.’

Ain’t that the truth. We had one dinner growing up, and if you didn’t eat it, well, you probably weren’t going to eat.

Who knows if that’s actually the best parenting technique, but it does beat having to make chicken fingers for one kid, pasta and ketchup sauce for another, and fish sticks and apple slices for the other.

Ciara says her goal is to get her kids to be open when it comes to trying new foods. It’s okay if they don’t like it, but they at least need to try it.

All my kids have a vegetable they like. Maybe one doesn’t like what the other one likes, but they do like vegetables. Win was eating salad with nothing on it the other day, it was so cute. The more that we’re able to let them try different things, we do end up finding things they like.
