Talk about having a lot on your plate! Comedian/actress/writer Amy Schumer was invited to host Saturday Night Live on November 5. It was her third time hosting the show, but unfortunately the third time wasn’t the charm.
The week before the show, when all the preparations and writing take place, Schumer’s son came down with RSV and had to be rushed to the hospital when his oxygen levels dropped.
She went on her Instagram on November 6, the day after hosting the show, to talk about how difficult the past week had been for her.
This was the hardest week of my life. I missed Thursday rehearsals when my son was rushed to ER and admitted for RSV. Shout out to all the parents going though this right now. I got to be with him the whole day at the hospital and the beautiful humans at @nbcsnl couldn’t have been more supportive.
Her son, 3-year-old Gene, has thankfully since recovered is now resting at home, but it was obviously a scary and emotional time for the entire family.
She went on to talk about how supportive everyone at SNL was.
The reason [SNL] is so fun to do isn’t actually the performance or the show itself. It’s getting to spend time with the people there. The cast and the writers of course but the people who are behind the scenes making it run smooth are my favorite. … Lorne [Michaels] has assembled the most talented people with the kindest hearts.
It’s nice to hear they were so understanding. Saturday Night Live can be a very stressful environment because everyone there is under pressure to come up with an entire show in a week and then perform it live for millions of people.
Anyway, we’re just happy to hear it all turned out okay! Here’s to hoping Gene has a speedy recovery!
