Two years ago, Katy Perry gave birth to her first child with Orlando Bloom. They welcomed Daisy Dove Bloom in August of 2020 in the middle of the pandemic, which seemed to be a popular time to have babies in the celebrity world.
And the first few months of motherhood was a bit overwhelming for the 38-year-old pop star, but these days, she’s starting to figure things out.
She recently talked to ET Canada about her journey as a mom, and she reflected on those first six weeks:
No one tells you about the first six weeks of having your first child — What? This is crazy! You’re feeding in the same corner of the same room for six weeks straight thinking, ‘Will I ever leave this house? And if I do, will they be OK?’
Once everything settled down though, she started to feel like she was on cloud nine:
The most mundane, beautiful things. You get this surge of joy back and it just makes everything come to life. For me, I’ve learned a lot about presence and that was something that I really wanted to give as a mother is just, ‘Yeah, there’s a zillion WhatsApp chats on fire, but I’m going to put this down and I’m going to color with you right now.
The most surprising part of this? Katy Perry is apparently a big “WhatsApp” user.
It’s nice to know she’s able to step away from the technology though and focus on quality time with her daughter. That can be a struggle for families. You’ll have mom and dad scrolling through Facebook in one room, a teenager on Instagram and TikTok in the next, and a five-year-old watching cartoons on YouTube in the next.
Sometimes it’s nice to put the phones away.
