Not only did Mindy Kaling star as the complicated Kelly Kapoor in the hit tv series ‘The Office‘ she also wrote over 20 episodes of the show. She was a huge part of the success.
And you’d think she’d want to share that with her kids, but in a recent interview, the 43-year-old writer/actress told Good Morning America she may never share The Office with her kids.
I kind of think maybe never. That show is so inappropriate now. We talk about — the writers who I’m still in touch with now — we always talk about how so much of that show, we probably couldn’t make now. Tastes have changed and honestly what offends people has changed so much now. So I think that actually is one of the reasons the show is popular because people feel like there’s something kind of fearless about it or taboo that it talks about on the show.
It’s worth noting that her kids are only 4 and 2 at the moment, so of course she wouldn’t show them the greatness of Michael Scott just yet.
She added that she thinks when her kids are teenagers they’ll probably want to watch it, “So I think when they’re teenagers they’ll probably want to,” she admitted.
Kaling is pretty private when it comes to her home life. She rarely shares photos of her kids, and when she does, their faces are not visible.
Back in August, she told Marie Claire that she wants her kids to be able to make the decision on whether or not they also want to be in the public eye.
I want them to be old enough to talk to me about it and [tell me] how they want me to talk about it. I’m the only parent my kids have. I think I err on the side of super cautious so that there’s less things that they can potentially be mad at me about down the line.
