Idina Menzel has a 13-year-old son named Walker with her ex-husband Taye Diggs. These days, she’s married to actor Aaron Lohr, and at first, the couple agreed to not have any more kids.

But then things changed as Aaron jumped into the stepfather role. He loved being a dad, and after many conversations, he and the ‘Frozen‘ star decided to try for another kid.

Maybe before meeting me, [Lohr] didn’t think he wanted to have kids, and then he sees how good of a dad he can be. So I wanted that for him. I didn’t think I wanted to have a baby but then Aaron has been the most amazing man to my son.

In her upcoming Disney+ documentary, the 51-year-old actress shares never-before-seen footage of her national tour in 2018.

And it was during this tour that she started her IVF journey. The cameras would follow her backstage, from venue to venue, but then also to her doctor’s appointments.

I’m literally going through stuff that I’m shooting into my body and I don’t know how that’s going to affect my voice. And it may force me to make extra trips to get back and forth to the doctor in addition to making trips to get home to my family. And all of that isn’t great on your body when you’re trying to have a baby.

She wanted to film these moments so that people understand what women go through and how emotionally draining the IVF process can be.

After not having much success, Idina and Lohr decided to stop the treatments. She says both her and Lohr are content now.

I have this amazing son and I was fortunate enough to have him. And the pregnancy was pretty easy and I conceived easily, and there’s a lot of people that don’t even get to have that. Lohr sees Walker as his own kid at this point anyway. I think we feel content and lucky with what we have.

You can check out her documentary, Which Way to the Stage, when it premieres on Disney+ December 9, 2022.
