If you’ve been following along with Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ parenting journey, then you know it got off to a very rocky start.

The 40-year-old actress and her husband Nick welcomed their first little baby girl (Malti) back on January 15, 2022. And sadly, they didn’t get to take her home until over three months later. Malti had to stay in the NICU for 100 days, making it back home just in time for Mother’s Day.

During a new interview with British Vogue, Chopra talked about how scary the entire process was. Malti was delivered a full trimester before her due date.

I was in the OR [operating room] when she came out. She was so small, smaller than my hand. I saw what the intensive-care nurses do. They do God’s work. Nick and I were both standing there as they intubated her. I don’t know how they even found what they needed [in her tiny body] to intubate her.

For the next three months, she and Nick spent most of their days in the NICU. She remembered resting her daughter on her chest, not knowing if she’d still be there tomorrow.

In the interview, Chopra also explained why she chose the surrogacy route, revealing she had medical complications.

I had medical complications. This was a necessary step, and I’m so grateful I was in a position where I could do this. Our surrogate was so generous, kind, lovely and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months.

We are just glad everything ended up working out in the end. We’re sure Nick and Priyanka are wonderful parents.
