It looks like congratulations are in order for 48-year-old rapper Da Brat and her wife, Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart.
Da Brat debuted her baby bump in an Instagram post on Tuesday, captioning the post, “BLESSINGS all 2023”
The Grammy-nominated artist tagged Hope Fertility in the post, writing, “thanks so much.”
In an interview with PEOPLE, Da Brat talked about how difficult and long the journey has been.
I never thought I was going to have kids. I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me.
But then everything changed when she married Jesseca. They decided to have a child of their own together, and they ended up in a “tug’o’war” over who would carry their baby. After some back and forth, it was decided Da Brat would carry.
After Da Brat had surgery to remove fibroids and polyps, she underwent an embryo transfer — and ultimately suffered a miscarriage. With the ‘few eggs’ they had left, as well as sperm from an anonymous donor described as an ‘eager entrepreneur,’ Da Brat was able to conceive again.
She’s currently 18 weeks along. It’ll be her first child, but it’ll be Jesseca’s fourth child. Da Brat and Jesseca said “I Do” in Georgia back in February 2022, but they’ve been in a relationship since 2020.
