There’s a little bit of mom drama surrounding the latest season of American Idol. The singing competition is still in its audition stage, but one contestant is already calling out judge Katy Perry.
Sara Beth Liebe appeared on a recent episode of the show and impressed the Idol judges with her performance. She received a “golden ticket” to Hollywood.
All is good, right? Not exactly. You see, when she introduced herself to the judges, she revealed she was the mother of three children. This was shocking to Katy Perry because Liebe is just 25-years-old.
Perry leaned against Luke Bryan with a shocked look on her face, and then acted as if she was about to lay down on the table. That’s when Liebe commented, “If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m gonna pass out.”
Katy replied, “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.”
Liebe did not respond to the comment in the audition, but once her episode aired, she called out Katy Perry in a video posted to TikTok.
I don’t really have too much to say on my feelings about it because I feel like it’s probably pretty self-explanatory. I mean, it was embarrassing to have that on TV and it was hurtful and, you know, that’s that. I think women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool, and I think that mom-shaming is super lame, and I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom and it’s hard enough to be a woman.
Of course, Katy herself is a mother. She shares 2-year-old Daisy Dove with her fiance, Orlando Bloom.
Katy has been a pretty big supporter of women on the show, so we can’t imagine she was being intentionally cruel. She was most likely trying to be funny and just didn’t think about how Liebe might take the comment.
What do you think? Should Katy apologize?
We’re assuming this means Liebe did not make it past Hollywood Week. Highly doubt she’d be calling Katy out if she did.
