Scarlett Johannsson is keeping it real. The 38-year-old actress appeared on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast this past week, and during the conversation, she talked a lot about parenting.
For those who don’t know, Scarlett shares an 8-year-old daughter named Rose with her ex Romain Dauriac, and a 2-year-old son named Cosmo with her current husband, Colin Jost.
Scarlett says she loves being a mom to little babies, but little toddlers? Not so much.
It’s really tough. I remember my daughter when she was 2, I said, ‘This is great. I don’t know what everybody is talking about.’ And then she turned 3, and it’s like being in an emotionally abusive relationship. It’s just so intense. No reasoning. Very intense emotional swings and like, so bossy and adamant, and it’s just crazy.
I don’t think anyone would disagree with this. Toddlers can be challenging. There are some highs, but also a lot of lows.
Scarlett admitted the newborn stage is much easier.
They’re so cute. They sit there, and they love you, and then that’s it. And you just get, like, love from them. Whereas you get a lot of grief from toddlers. Like, everything you do is not right, which is hard.
During the discussion, she also talked about how her career has changed since having children. She admitted to being very career-driven early on in life, but that has changed in recent years.
So now that my daughter is older, I don’t work in the same way that I used to work when I was, you know, 25 years old. I was very career-driven and focused at that time, and less focused on personal growth.
