Katie Holmes’ number one goal as a mother? Protect. The 44-year-old actress is the mother of 16-year-old Suri Cruise, and during a recent interview with Glamour, Holmes talked a little about parenting.
She explained in the interview that because Suri was so “visible” at a young age, she wants to protect her from the spotlight now that she’s older.
What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her. I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent.
Of course, Katie shares Suri with mega movie star Tom Cruise, although sources say he doesn’t have much of a relationship with Suri. Some insiders say he hasn’t seen her in years.
Meanwhile, Suri and Katie have a strong bond. In fact, Suri sings the opening credits of Katie’s most recent film, Alone Together.
I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly.
Katie really does seem like a sweet person, so we’re sure she’s a wonderful mother. It’ll be interesting to see if Suri has any sort of relationship with Cruise later in life.
