Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos might be a power couple in the entertainment industry, but their kids don’t seem to care all that much.
During a discussion with E! News, Kelly and Mark talked about how their kids refuse to interact with them online.
When you have a news feed and it says ‘Suggest more or suggest this, like this or block this channel,’ I’m certain they have blocked any channel with any mention of our names. Just like they block us on social media. They block us any way they can.
Mark and Kelly share three kids together: 25-year-old Michael, 21-year-old Lola and 20-year-old Joaquin.
Kelly doesn’t take the blocking personally though. In fact, she says she understands it as a form of self-preservation.
They’re in a whole ‘nother subculture. They’re like, ‘What do you mean? What are you guys doing?’ They have no idea. Each kid, through different periods of time in their lives, go through a stage like, ‘Don’t talk about us or I’d rather not be a subject,’ We respect that.
It’s true. When it comes to the internet, a 20-year-old is going to have a much different experience than a 50-year-old. They might both be on the internet, but they’re not crossing paths.
And good on Kelly and Mark for respecting those boundaries. So many parents will try to force themselves into a situation where they’re not wanted.
It seems like Mark and Kelly have a great bond with their kids. They have previously talked about how hard it was watching their youngest son go off to college.
When Joaquin left [for the University of Michigan], it was hard, the two of us and the dogs staring at each other, like ‘Well, now what?’ The first dinner I cooked, I’m not kidding, was for 12 people, and it was just the two of us. We sat there with this inordinate amount of food, neither one of us hungry at all.
