During a very special Actors on Actors series, Jennifer Garner and ‘Abbott Elementary‘ star Sheryl Lee Ralph bonded over motherhood and all the highs and lows that come with it.
They discussed giving their kids the most normal life possible.
“With all the celebrity and all of that, I feel like I have a very normal life, and I think you have that similar sort of vibe,” Ralph told Garner, adding, “We love our kids.”
Garner agreed and said, “Yeah, and all the stuff that comes with it. The mess of parenting is a gift,” she laughed.
This is when Ralph brought up the fact that they both share the same dedication to raising their kids in a healthy environment despite their respective marriages not working out.
Both of us having gone through divorce … You did something that I did as well, and that was maintain a healthy relationship with my ex for the health and well-being of my children. And with the spotlight on us all the time, sometimes that can be difficult. But when I look at my kids, when I see you and your kids, I was like, ‘Girl, we did that,’
They did that indeed. And for Garner, it was especially difficult because Ben was addicted to gambling and alcohol during the most troublesome part of their marriage/divorce. She could have easily made co-parenting hard for him, but she chose not to.
