Today‘ weatherman Al Roker’s life has been filled with stormy days, with multiple trips to the hospital and several surgeries.

But thankfully, it looks like sunshine is in the forecast for the foreseeable future.

The 68-year-old star was all smiles on Monday’s episode of Today. He talked a little about his new granddaughter, Sky Clara Laga, who was born on July 3.

“It is magical, it really is,” he said about being a grandparent for the first time. His 36-year-old daughter Courtney welcomed the baby girl with her husband of two years, Wesley Laga.

The thing is, everyone tells you it’s going to be ‘this thing’ and you don’t know; it’s like when they tell you about having your first child. And then to hold this little girl, knowing almost 35 years ago I held her mom? And here she is, 5 lbs., 15 oz. 19 inches long and she’s just perfect.

He also revealed that Sky is a great sleeper. He even joked that they have the same sleeping schedule: sleep for four hours, wake up to use the bathroom, and then sleep for four more.

Oh, and by the way, the fact that her name is “Sky” has nothing to do with the fact that Al is a weatherman, although he admits it’s a nice coincidence.

He went on to give an update on his daughter and son-in-law, sayin both are ‘doing well.’ He said: ‘You know, Courtney had a [cesarian section], so she’s struggling a little bit with that. And Wes, you know, I think the gravity of being a dad. But he still has that buoyant personality.

Congrats to the happy family!
