Keke Palmer has been involved in some drama with the father of her baby, Darius Jackson, but we’re not here to talk about that messy situation.

Instead, we’re going to stick to what we know… parenting!

The 29-year-old star welcomed her first baby, Leodis “Leo” Andrellton, back in February, and while she’s been loving #momlife, she has faced her share of struggles.

One of those struggles? Breastfeeding. She talked to PEOPLE about how breastfeeding is natural, but not necessarily instinctual.

Although breastfeeding is ‘natural,’ it’s not instinctual. It’s been a doozy. I really went through the journey of just trying to figure out how to do that and how to support my baby — how to deal with the pressure of trying to do that right. You don’t even really know what to search, and how to really prepare yourself for something like that. So shout out to all the lactation consultants because mine really, really made the difference for me.

A lot of mothers can feel all alone once they’re released from the hospital with their newborn, so it’s important to surround yourself with friends, family… and yes, a symphony of consultants.

But not everyone can afford to have consultants, which is something Keke is fully aware of…

I wish that everybody had access to lactation consultants. It sucks that it’s kind of like a luxury. They have people saying breast is best, breast is best. But not everyone can even get support. That’s a mess.

She speaks the truth. There are so many things in the world that are classified as “luxuries” when really they should be necessities.
