The highly anticipated ‘Barbie‘ movie is set to hit theaters next weekend, which means the stars of the film have been busy promoting the project.

For those who don’t know, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling co-star in the movie. Margot plays the titular character and of course Gosling is playing the role of Ken.

During a chit-chat with PEOPLE before the world premiere of the film, Gosling admitted he didn’t play with Barbies when he was a kid, but his two daughters do play with them, and they’re confused as to why he wanted to play the role of Ken.

My kids were my introduction to [Barbie]. I think they’re confused as to why I would want to play Ken. They have no use for Ken. My kids were around for the months at home, as I was prepping for it. So they, inadvertently, were prepping for it too. And they came to set that day and were a huge sense of support and doing it with me off-camera.

For those who don’t know, the 42-year-old actor shares 7-year-old Amada and 8-year-old Esmeralda with his wife, Eva Mendes. They met way back in 2011 while filming The Place Beyond the Pines.

He has previously talked about how playing a pretend family with Eva in Beyond the Pines made him really crave the real thing with her.

And there were moments on The Place Beyond the Pines where we were pretending to be a family, and I didn’t really want it to be pretend anymore.

A love story for the ages.
