69-year-old actor Dennis Quaid sat down for a lengthy chat with PEOPLE this week. He talked a little about his upcoming gospel album (yes, he sings?) and a lot about his kids.
Quaid has a total of three children. He shares 31-year-old Jack Quaid with his second wife, Meg Ryan. He also has 15-year-old twins, Thomas and Zoe, with his third wife, Kate Buffington. Currently, he’s on his fourth wife, Laura Savoie. They married in 2020 and she’s only 30-years-old, so there’s a big age difference between them.
But hey, no judgement here.
During the interview, Quaid admitted his teenagers make him feel like a complete dork.
I can be loud sometimes. I kind of feel like a dorky dad a lot because…especially my daughter makes me feel that way. Very uncomfortable, awkward. Awkward. Teenagers are awkward.
Even though they make him feel like a dork sometimes, Quaid absolutely loves being a father, and he believes he’s been a pretty good one.
I love being a dad. I really do. I think I’m a good dad. It turned out so far so good. Jack really turned out well. I’m really proud of him, and Thomas and Zoe too. They’re really just great kids. I love watching them grow up and watching them change. I look back on us when I was 15 and you just don’t have a clue what’s going to happen to you in your life. I don’t have a clue what’s going to happen with them either, but it’s day by day that they’re coming along.
For those who don’t know, Jack has followed in his father’s (and mother’s) footsteps by becoming an actor. He stars in the hit series ‘The Boys‘ and he was also in the recent ‘Scream‘ reboot.
By the way, Quaid has previously revealed the best time to get to know your kids is during breakfast.
During breakfast, getting them up, you really get to know them. They’re as fresh as they’re going to get. It’s not the witching hour at night when it’s time to go to bed and all the excuses come out. A lot of bonding goes on in the morning, talking about life.
