In case you missed it, Matthew McConaughey’s 15-year-old son, Levi, joined Instagram back in July. Up until that point, he was not allowed to have any public social media.

McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, have talked to their kids about the dangers of social media. They’ve tried to keep them off for as long as possible, but now that their kids are becoming teenagers, they’re losing the battle.

During an interview with PEOPLE, the 53-year-old actor revealed they’ve been talking to Levi about social media for three years.

After two to three years of talking about the pitfalls and the upfalls and the downfalls, and him shadowing me on my IGs and his mother on hers and picking out people that he looked up to and talking to them about it, we felt he’s got enough information and is mature enough to tell his own story.

Geez. Sounds like he basically went to training camp for social media, which honestly, doesn’t sound like a bad idea in today’s world. They should have a social media class in school.

McConaughey spoke highly of his son, saying he’s a very “considerate” and “cool” young man, and he hopes the world treats him with the same respect he gives out.

In addition to Levi, McConaughey and Alves share 13-year-old Vida and 10-year-old Livingston.
