Working mothers are constantly having to fight off thoughts of guilt. You always think, “Am I spending enough time with my kids?” while trying to find that perfect balance.
But actress/director Elizabeth Banks says there’s no such thing as a perfect balance.
I’m not sure that balance is, there’s no balance achievable. For me, what I’ve come to is letting go of guilt. It’s societal. But you let go of it. And I trust my husband. My husband — just being like, ‘You got it.’
Banks and her sportswriter husband, Max Handelman, share two sons together, an 11-year-old named Felix and a 10-year-old named Magnus.
The ‘Cocaine Bear‘ director revealed the key to parenting is letting go of control…
He’s not going to parenting the exact same way that I do it. But that’s okay. You have to practice letting go of control.
And we’re sure that’s a hard thing for her to manage because most directors are control freaks.
Elsewhere in the interview, she talked about how her mother worked a lot when she was younger and she didn’t seem to mind it.
My mom worked and I’m not mad. That’s great. I’m like, great job. So really letting go of guilt. It’s been huge for me. Really, truly, it’s allowed me to just be at work and not be worried.
