We try to focus solely on celebrity parents, but hey, giving birth at age 70 kinda makes you a celebrity.
A 70-year-old Ugandan woman named Safina Namukwaya gave birth to twins after going through IVF earlier this year. She welcomed a boy and a girl on Wednesday (Nov 29) at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Uganda.
The hospital shared the news on their Facebook page, writing:
Mother and babies are all well. Each of the twins weighed 3 lbs., 7 oz. It is more than medical success; it’s about the strength and resilience of the human spirit.
Ya’ think? Pushing out two humans at the age of 70 is a pretty miraculous feat. Sure, one could argue whether someone should be attempting such a thing in the first place, but hey… to each their own!
Namukwaya said the pregnancy was not easy, but she’s thankful for the blessings.
There was a time I felt very sick because of the pregnancy. I spent nearly all my savings. Then I went to a hospital and talked to the doctor about my condition. God is in charge. You see, you can have one child and feel overwhelmed. But here I am with twins at a time I am weak … I don’t know, but they say every child comes with their blessings.
Here’s to hoping she has a strong support system at home!
