In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, global superstar Adele talked a little about motherhood and how it’s caused her to look back at her own childhood.
The 35-year-old singer, who has an 11-year-old son named Angelo, says she has a little more respect for her mother, Penny Adkins, now that she’s a mother herself.
And no matter what your childhood was like — good or bad or whatever — you don’t want your child to have your childhood. My mum was very young when she had me. She was on her own, and I realized all the things I thought she could have done better, that she couldn’t have. It made me respect my mum more and has given me more patience with her, as her older-woman daughter.
Adele explained how they didn’t have a lot of money growing up, and her mom didn’t receive much help from Adele’s father. So she was a single mother trying to do it all on her own, which we all know is incredibly difficult.
It made me see how hard it must’ve been because we had no money. She didn’t have my dad and stuff like that, whereas I was with Angelo’s dad. I’m very lucky that I can afford to look after my child properly, and more than properly.
She can definitely afford to look after Angelo properly. It’s reported her net worth is over $200 million.
