Maria Menounos has struggled a lot the past few years. She’s had several medical issues, including a brain tumor and being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Thankfully, she had a rare, less aggressive form of the cancer, so she was able to make a full recovery.
But after beating all those health issues, she had to deal with infertility struggles. She and her husband had been trying to get pregnant for years. She wanted to be a mother with all her heart.
And finally, earlier this year, she welcomed her first baby via surrogate. During a recent conversation with PEOPLE on Tuesday, the 45-year-old star talked about how happy she is right now.
I think the space I’m in right now is just overjoyed. I’m just so happy. My baby just … literally, I could float. I think I could levitate. She makes me so happy and so I’m so grateful to be healthy and I remember last year going into the year being like, ‘I’m ready to do stuff again. I’m so gonna crush [it],’ and then boom! I got hit again. This year I think I’m just gonna ride the happy wave and just see what happens.
She shares 4-month-old Athena with her husband, Keven Undergaro. They’ve been married since 2017.
Back in October, Maria celebrated her daughter’s first Halloween by sharing photos of her dressed up as Cookie Monster.
Adorable.
