During a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, former ‘Deal or No Deal‘ host Howie Mandel talked a lot about his family, and revealed he is thrilled to be welcoming another grandchild.
The 68-year-old comedian admitted he likes being a grandparent more than being just a parent.
I’m having my third grandchild, my daughter is pregnant. Grandchildren, had I known it was this good and this much fun, I would’ve done that first. To have a child, to have a baby, to have this bundle of joy, this love that I can’t get enough of. And then to be able to give it back when it starts to smell.
And that’s a big thing for Mandel because he famously suffers from OCD and does not deal with germs all that well. He stopped shaking people’s hands years before the pandemic. We can’t imagine how much fear a dirty diaper would bring him.
Elsewhere in the interview, Mandel explained that another reason why grandchildren are so great is because you once again have someone who thinks you’re cool.
The beauty is, when you have babies, they think you’re a superhero. You’re the greatest thing in the world. And then a switch goes off at a certain age where you’re just dumber than a rock. Not cool at all. I thought I would be a cool dad, they just… no.
Ah, yes. We all want to believe we’re going to be the “cool” parent, but we almost never are. It’s just part of life.
