Jessica Alba is a “real one” when it comes to parenting. She does not promote some unrealistic, perfect life that so many celebrities seem to tout on their social media pages.
The 42-year-old actress likes to keep it real, and she continued doing that in a cover story for REAL SIMPLE’s first-ever, Feelings Issue.
Alba talked about how when Honor (her daughter) was 11, they were arguing all the time, and she knew something needed to change because she felt a wedge growing between them.
Honor was probably 11, and we were arguing all the time about dumb stuff. And I was like, ‘I don’t want to live like this. This is not fun. As her mother, when I say something, she’s going to hear it as an argument or as me trying to control her. I wanted there to be someone who could explain things in a way I couldn’t. What I said to Honor was, ‘I want to be a better parent to you, and this is your forum to basically talk about everything that gets on your nerves that I do.’
She admitted the therapy sessions really worked. They both saw each other’s perspective. It wasn’t just Honor learning things, Alba also discovered things about herself.
It put me in check. Like, ‘Yeah, I totally do that. And I’m sorry. I’m going to work on that.’ It gave her a little bit of perspective too—that I’m not the bad guy; I’m just being a parent,
In addition to Honor, Alba shares 12-year-old Haven and 6-year-old Hayes with her husband, Cash Warren.
