If you watched the Oscars on Sunday night, then you know Ryan Gosling stole the show with his highly entertaining performance of “I’m Just Ken” from the Barbie soundtrack.
The track was nominated for Best Song at the Oscars, but lost to another Barbie tune, What Was I Made For.
The 43-year-old actor talked to PEOPLE this week at the premiere of his upcoming film, The Fall Guy, and revealed his daughters, Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7, gave him tips before his performance.
It was great. It was so fun because they came to the dress rehearsal the day before and so they were in the front row. They gave me some tips and some notes, all great notes. They are such a huge part of this for me…it was my girl’s interest in Barbie and disinterest in Ken that got me into this in the first place. It was beautiful to have them there at the end.
Gosling shares his two girls with his longtime partner, Eva Mendes. They are a very private family, but we do know they are super close and spend lots of quality time together. In fact, Eva put her acting career on hold, so that she could be with her kids.
A couple years ago, Mendes was interviews by Byrdie, and she talked about how she believes boredom is really important for kids…
I really feel like when we’re bored — not stimulated by a phone, or an iPad, or computer or television — that’s when ideas come in. Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s dangerous, and sometimes it’s enlightening. I really want it to be the summer of boredom for my kids.
