Living in New York City just by yourself can be a challenge, but trying to raise five kids while living there? YIKES!
57-year-old comedian Jim Gaffigan and his wife, Jeannie, managed to do it though. They share five kids together, ranging from age 19 to 11.
And during the Garden of Laughs comedy benefit at Madison Square Garden, Gaffigan talked to PEOPLE about raising his kids in one of the biggest cities in the world.
“It was a huge mistake,” he joked, before admitting he believes his kids have enjoyed growing up in NYC. Still though, there are things he doesn’t particularly enjoy… like the constant smell of weed.
I mean, also, it’s different, right? Because now there’s — I’d love to walk a block in New York City and not smell weed. You know what I mean? When you’re in your twenties, you’re like, ‘Yeah, there should be no rules.’ And then when you’re a parent, you’re like, ‘Hey, maybe not every block.’ And of course, I live in the East Village, so I’m kind of asking for it.
He’s not lying. There’s a lot of weed being smoked on the streets of NYC.
Earlier this month, Gaffigan talked more about his family, revealing that he has found parenting gets harder as your kids grow older…
It’s wonderful and really, really hard. What no one tells you is that when they get older, it gets so much harder. It’s just a different type of hard.
Parenting in general is hard. Across the board.
