Ryan Gosling’s last two movie roles have been Ken in the Barbie movie, and his latest film, The Fall Guy, which is a fun action movie about stunt performers.
During a new interview with WSJ Magazine, the 43-year-old actor revealed he picked those roles with a purpose.
He admitted that he’s trying to avoid taking on dark roles, so that it doesn’t place him in a bad headspace before going back home to his family. For those who don’t know, he shares two daughters with his wife, Eva Mendes.
I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place. This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them with our family in mind first.
Thinking back, he believes this new mindset first started with La La Land back in 2016.
I think La La Land was the first. It was sort of like, oh this will be fun for them too, because even though they’re not coming to set, we’re practicing piano every day or we’re dancing or we’re singing.
Gosling also said fatherhood has made him more afraid of doing anything that might potentially be dangerous, like performing stunts on set.
My body turns to stone. I think it’s happened when I had kids — really, you start to be way more conscious of everything you do and everything you’ve ever done and everything you will do if you get a chance to do it.
Is Ryan Gosling the best dad ever? It’s possible!
